Measure in feet - go to shop - let them work it out for you - if they screw it up you have comeback against them
They are about the same. A square meter is slightly more than a square yard. Carpet is sold in the U.S. in 6 foot width(2m) or 12 foot width(4m). A meter is 3 foot 3 inches, about.
8m long by 6m wide is 8*6=48m2

but the need to know the lenght and width for a floor otherwise you would get the wrong shape
Search square yards to square meters. The calculator will give you the exact measurement.
Hi there

http://www.plas… is a great site to help with all your conversions

I hope it helps :)

Usually thought the shop would be fitting so they do free measuring aswell - just check

Good Luck :)
Very simple. Measure the length and measure the width. If the room is 3 yards x 3 yards, you multiply the numbers together and get a total square yardage.

3 x 3 = 9 sq. yards.
if its a simple square or rectangle shape, with 4 straight sides you simply decide wether to measure in feet and inches, or in metres and centimetres and multiply the length with the width. so if your room is 10' long and 8' wide you multiply 8 x 10 = 80sq.m. easy. take your measurements with you to ensure that their rolls are wide enough if you have a large room.
if the room is an odd shape its slightly more complicated, but you can draw a rough sketch, showing the shape of the room and put the correct measurement on each wall and take it to the shop with you.
As a rough guide there are 9 square feet in a square yard and 11 square feet in a square metre.

When taking this kind of measurements always allow for waste say 10 %. However the carpet shop will most likely not waht to allow for waste
Width x Length = Square (metres or Yards)

Square yards = you are measuring the area in feet and remaining inches
Square Metres = You are measuring the area in metres and remaining centimetres

Measure the room size, measure the longest distance, this includes measuring into the furthest areas such as bay windows, alcoves doorways e.t.c.

Don't worry about calculating the total square yard / metre of your home. This is why there are jobs for estimators. They can work out from your sizes the amount of carpet required. Give the sizes to the shop and they will calculate the total carpet required. This is the easiest option, and saves any mistakes. Carpet comes in either 4 or 5 metre widths as standard, what the estimator will do is plan to reduce the waste carpet as much as possible in order to provide you with the cheapest quote.
